Important, Italian, Renaissance period, giltwood and pastiglia cassone
The arched top decorated and star-shaped motif centered by a coat-of-arms, above a rectangular body decorated in pastiglia with figures in procession, the sides with similar star-shaped motif on bracket legs. Circa 1430, with restorations.
Provenance: Formerly part of the collection of Émile Gavet (1830-1904), Paris; sold to William K. Vanderbilt and Alva Vanderbilt Belmont (1853-1933) at Marble House in Newport, Rhode Island; possibly later conveyed to John Ringling (1866-1936) in Sarasota, Florida.
